Henry Miller Henry Miller Wild West Weekend

The Second Annual
Henry Miller Wild West Weekend
Your Passport to the Past

The fun starts October 10, 2008 at the Merced County Spring Fairgrounds Los Banos , CA and continues through the 12th. Help us celebrate 100 years of  local history & cultural diversity.

German immigrant Henry Miller founded Los Banos in 1890; it was incorporated in 1907. The Henry Miller Wild West Weekend is the Grand Finale to six months of celebrating Los Banos’ Centennial. We also honor the legendary Captain Charles Young and the Buffalo Soldiers  of the 10th Cavalry who stayed in Los Banos during their  16 day journey from the Presidio of San Francisco to the Sequoia National Park in Bakersfield.

The Wild West Weekend is host to the California State Championship of Cowboy Fast Draw, an exciting new sport that has women and men shooting authentic .45 caliber single action six shooters (wax bullets) at 24” round targets from a holstered position. .Celebrating Our Culture: Our event not only concludes our city’s centennial celebration, we also wrap up National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) with a Mexican Charro and Vaquero Show bringing history to life. Native American Yokuts will perform and educate the crowds about their history, as will other cultural dancers

Due to the uniqueness of our event, central location, cultural connection, affordability and level of excitement and enthusiasm expressed by nearly all who hear of this event, we believe the community will financially support this event in an unprecedented manner. The general public is encouraged to dress in cultural heritage of the 1890’s. Food vendors and dry goods vendors will be asked to dress in 1890’s garb and to create 1890’s era booths.
